30/9/06 10As maintained their
winning sequence with a 3-0 home win over Swords
Manor in Porterstown. They were sent on their way
with Brian Allen's strike in the first half, which
gave them a 1-0 advantage at half-time. The
match was generally evenly contested, except for the
scoreboard, as Swords were competing well. Celtic's
defender, James Henry, had to be at his best at the
back to keep the opposition at bay.
Celtic increased their advantage in the second half
after man of the match Luke Lynch was brought down
in the box. Glen Murphy stepped up and smacked
a beauty into the top of the net from the spot kick.
Despite increasing their lead, Celtic had to be
alert as Swords pressed forward, but fortunately,
Nathan McAloon was putting in an inspiring display
with his work rate, motoring between the defence and
midfield. Stephen O'Donoghue was on the top of
his game in the middle of the park, while ably
assisted by team-mate, Jamie Traynor. With
great commitment, Celtic were able to keep Swords
scoreless, while late on they stretched their
winning margin to 3-0 after a goalmouth scramble,
when Luke Martin rifled in from close range.
This was an impressive victory for Celtic over last
season's title winners, and puts down a marker for
Celtic's ambitions for the season.

LSL Premier Sat
shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw away to
Malahide Utd in the Castle grounds on Saturday.
Celtic had to come from behind twice. Their
first came from a well-worked move, which
started with Karl Fox at full back, who passed
to Ronan McGivern, who in turn sent Ciaran Carr
clear on the right wing. He spotted Garry
Deveney, who crossed to John Byrne to slot home
from close range. Celtic went behind
following a defensive lapse. But they
rallied strongly to level the game when Fergal
Cusack, back for his first outing of the new
season, flicked over the Malahide keeper.
This Celtic team are looking forward to their
2nd round FAI Jnr Cup encounter against
Oldchurch in mid-October.
AUL Div2 Sat lost by the only goal of
the game away to Tolka Rvrs in Frank Cooke Park,
in this 1st round Leinster Jnr Cup fixture.
Celtic battled throughout against a stronger
Tolka side, but in the end, it was unlucky
finishing that denied stand-in manager, Arnie
Brady, a result. Adam and Steve
O'Callaghan had both gone close to opening
Celtic's account. They will face Moate
Celtic in the 2nd round of the FAI Jnr Cup in
mid-October.
