Celtic
d
id their chances of another league title in two
successive campaigns no har
m at all away in Artane
in this the first of their mid-week fixtures as the
summer finally arrived. It is no picnic
travelling mid-week when one has to negotiate the
nightmare that is M50 mayhem, where the only thing
that moves is time.
But Eddie, Arnie and
Noel had their troops well primed for this fixture,
even though there was little or no time available
for warm-ups. They finally clicked into gear
after 25 mins, when Colm Brady hit his customary
strike to put the visitors 1-0 up. But the joy was
short lived as St Brendans hit back quickly to level
matters 10 mins before half time with a dubious
penalty. 1-1.
On 55 mins, John Dunne
was on hand to put Celtic 2-1 ahead. 10 mins
later, it was Adam O'Callaghan who struck with the
first of his 2 goals to put more daylight between
the teams. 3-1.
15 mins from time, Adam
was again on hand to widen the margin, followed soon
after by Steve O'Callaghan, who shot the fifth.

Eddie was delighted with
the manner of the victory which he considered the
best of the season. But he was even more
elated when he learnt that league leaders, Marks
Celtic, were beaten at home by Dragon Rangers. This
leaves Castleknock just 3 points adrift of Marks
with 3 games in hand. There are few who would
bet against Eddie's team pulling off another title.
