Artane Beaumont 2
Castleknock
Celtic 2
NDSL U-9C
24th October 09
The wind and
sickness played a major factor in this encounter between
Artane Beaumont and Celtic away in Beaumont. The
visiting squad was depleted to just 8 due to a
combination of sickness and holiday.
The match
started well with both teams contesting the ball in the
middle of the park. Very few chances were taken or given
but on the stroke of half-time the home team took
advantage of some sloppy defending and poked a shot into
the bottom corner.
Celtic chased
the equaliser after the break and a careless foul just
outside the box gave Artane Beaumont a free kick.
It was dispatched with aplomb, shooting past all the
Celtic defenders and the keeper. 2-0 down was a
formidable ask for the visitors.
Celtic got a
corner which Artane didn’t deal with, and David Slupko
slotted home from close range. 2-1 and game on.
Artane kept the
pressure on but they committed too many to attack, and
on the break Dylan Smith beat the keeper who came out
too far and scored an easy equaliser.
Both teams
chased the winner and in the last minute, a free kick
nearly sealed it for Castleknock but it wasn’t to be.
Hopefully Celtic will be back to full strength next week
and back to winning form. Final score 2:2, which
was a credit to every single member of the squad who
made sure that Celtic came away from Artane with
something to show for their effort. 2-2 |
