NDSL U-8 League Cup

10th Oct 2009

A thrilling opener for Castleknock in this first game of the league cup. Castleknock started well with Sam Hennessy and Jack Kearney playing at the back tested in the early stages of the opening half but they stood up to the task well and slowly the midfield of Sam Turner, Ben Blanche and Robert Lynch began to get on top of this excellent opposition. With good work from Arron Lynch Castleknock closed in on goal and despite a good clearance Ben Blanche pounced on the loose ball, slipped past one block and fired an unstoppable drive in to the bottom corner. Castleknock were up for the game from here on in and with a couple of changes before half time Noma Eridawu got on the end of a superb ball from Vilius Labutis and he coolly slotted home for number 2.  Dunshaughlin came back to win a penalty just before half time but shot over from the spot.

The second half began with Dunshaughlin getting right back in to the game with their number 2 causing havoc in the Castleknock defence and a chaotic goal mouth scramble resulting in a goal. Castleknock pulled themselves together and with Brian Dalton, Lewis Kilkenny and the ever busy Vilius Labutis moving the ball well with neat passing. Their interchanges resulted in superb ball again through to Noma Eridawu and his finishing was excellent. Castleknock pushed forward again and again and both Robert Lynch and Lewis Kilkenny got on the scoresheet with good finishes. To be fair to Dunshaughlin they pushed hard and Sam Turner and Mark Hughes had to be at their best with some fabulous tackling to keep them out. One goal back for Dunshaughlin meant a nervous last 5 minutes but Castleknock saw out the game to win in a league that will be tough for Castleknock judging by this opposition. Man of the Match Ben Blanche.
