Castleknock

Castleknock Celtic  1  Swords Celtic  1

NDSL 15Premier

6th Sept. 2009

Honours even in a pulsating opening game for the under 15 premier team.  This was a game that Castleknock should have won comfortably. All the early pressure was on the Swords goal.

Against the run of play Swords went ahead. Castleknock defence were caught in possession and Swords broke to score.  The rest of the first half continued to be dominated by Castleknock. Wale and Luke Gealon running the show for the home team.

Cregan had an effort just wide.  Slevin went close and it was just a question of when Castleknock would get an equaliser.  Gealon broke down the right wing, turned inside and laid on a pass for Roe, who shot first time only to see his effort rebound off a Castleknock player. This was followed almost immediately by Stark breaking down the left, crossed superbly into the box, where Slevin showed his predatory skills to score.  Before the break Slevin went close again.  Half-time: 1-1.

The second half continued in the same manner. Castleknock pressing hard for a winner. Perth and the superb Wale were comfortable in defence, and Swords had no answer to Wale's surging runs down the flanks.  With Mo, Gealon, and Kelly dominating midfield, the chances were bound to come.  Slevin had a shot just wide, then he almost got on the end of a shot from Roe. Next up Roe had a powerful shot that skimmed the bar.  The home side almost paid for pushing too far forward when Swords broke down the left and a powerful shot was saved by murphy.  Slevin had a free kick saved by the keeper.  Then in a crowded box Roe had a header that seemed to cross the line but the Swords keeper sprang to his left and touched the ball out onto the upright.

Headcoach Slevin was effusive in his praise of man of the match Wale.  Excellent performances from Perth, Gealon, Kelly, Mo, Slevin, and Roe, showed that this could be a good season for the home club.  Manager Roe was pleased with the team performance.
