Castleknock Celtic DDSL U-15Major continued their fine
early season form with an excellent 4 -2 away win
against Dunboyne. Playing into a strong breeze in the
first half Celtic played fantastic football, keeping the
ball on the deck and stringing together some brilliant
passing movements. Sean Hoare and Kevin Flanagan in
midfield dominated and stretched the Dunboyne team.
Adam Noonan on the right wing scourged the left back and
set up a number of goal chances. The first chance came
to Mark Conroy who hit a fabulous low shot from 20 yards
right into the bottom corner, however the man of the
mach, Gavin the Dunboyne Goalkeeper, reached out to keep
the ball out. Adam Noonan hit the rebound to the net,
but the ref ruled it out for offside. Adam then saw a
header from a corner come off the underside of the cross
bar and bounce over the line, but again the ref waved
play on. Not Adam's night. Sean Hoare hit the post
with a cracking shot and Dale Crosrave forced the
goalkeeper to make a couple of great saves. Stephen
Kenna headed in a brilliant goal, but again the ref
disallowed saying the cross went over the line before
reaching Stephen. Eventually the break came, and it had
to be from a corner, Mikey Byrne heading in at the near
post.
The second half started well and a great move between
Adam Noonan sent Mark Conroy away down the right. His
pin point cross was met by the in rushing Stephen
Treadwell to volley the ball home. Dale Cosgrove had a
couple of more chances before Mikey Byrne set up
Treadwell again and he smashed it past the goalkeeper to
make it 3-0. Celtic were playing champagne football and
were cruising. However they took their foot off the
pedal and allowed Dunboyne back into the match. In
fairness to Dunboyne they made a few switches and this
also contributed to the change in the pattern of the
game. Dunboyne scored with a superb 25 years strike.
With 15 minutes to go they scored again, leaving it an
anxious last few minutes, However Castleknock weathered
the storm with Robbie Kavanagh showing excellent form by
shoring up the midfield. Mikey Byrne broke away to score
the 4th with a minute to go.
All in all a good result and if Celtic can replicate
their first half form they will be very hard to beat..
