Drumcondra 0 v 1 Castleknock Celtic

The long Christmas break had no effect whatsoever on
Castleknock, as they hit the ground running on a very
cold and foggy morning in Drumcondra.
Castleknock made most of the early running, but a
strong Drumcondra defense held them at bay. As the half
wore on Drumcondra started to exert pressure of their
own, and came very close to opening the scoring when
their centre half was given a free header from a corner
kick. To the relief of Castleknock the header flew over
the crossbar. It was nip and tuck from then to the
interval. Drumcondra did have the bal in the net just
before the break, but the effort was ruled offside.

The second half was a replica of the first. Two strong
defenses giving nothing away. It was clear at this
stage that one goal would possibly win this match. The
goal duly arrived with 13 minutes remaining. A move
started when right full Caolan
O' Donnel found right winger
Luke Doyle
in acres of space.. He had time and space to pick out
Tony
O' Leary in the penalty area who laid
the ball off for left winger
Paul
Donoghue to finish smartly.
It was all Castleknock at this stage, and they saw a
second goal from

Leary ruled offside |
