Castleknock Celtic 5   Fairview 0

25th Oct 08

Originally fixed for the Marino Institute, it had to be switched at late notice to Laurel Lodge, which was Celtic's only pitch declared playable this weekend. The weather was atrocious, but it did not dampen the spirits of the Celtic team which is enjoying a purple patch this season.

Celtic's first goal was in the Maradona class. Karl Fox picked up the ball in his own half, raced down the wing, beat a number of defenders, before he slotted home to put the home side in front. The second involved Deco Cunningham, who dummied to allow Cian Kelliher a tap in from close range. The third was a smashing drive from Eddie Treacy. The first half rout was completed when Deco Cunningham and Eddie Treacy exchanged passes, before setting up John Byrne to volley home. Half-time 4-0.

The misery was compounded for Fairview when Des Kennearney unleashed a pile driver to put Celtic 3 points behind the leaders with 3 games in hand. Man of the match was a difficult choice, but it eventually  was decided to give it to Brendan Lee who didn't give the Fairview centre forward a sniff all afternoon.  Crucially this was an opportunity for Celtic to experiment with different combinations of players and formations that will stand them in good stead as they resume their assault on the FAI and the Leinster Junior Cups, as well as maintaining their challenge on a second league title on the trot. The expected resumption of their FAI Junior Cup campaign next week will likely be interrupted as the management team of Vernon McAllorum and Dan Carey will be on international duty with their Street Leagues team. Result: 5-0
