"Celtic keep pressure on at the top of  table"

AUL Div2A Sat.

20 March 2009

Celtic's Div2A AUL side put in a powerful display against 2nd placed Harelawn Athletic from Clondalkin.  They are now only 5 points behind the leaders with 3 games in hand.

James Haughton got Celtic on their way with his side-footer at the far post after good work on the right wing by Davy Hunt.  Harelawn hit back with an equaliser soon after.  But Philip Germaine was involved in a slick interchange with Odie Fanning, before he hit a low raking shot into the net from 16 yards. Philip Cooney made it 3-1 when he hit a left footed shot from 18 yards after his right-footed effort was blocked down.  3-1 half-time.

Harelawn fought back in the second half, and were rewarded with their second after 70 mins, and looked certain to equalise in the dying minutes when their striker looked like they had to score, but he failed to convert. Celtic's man of the match was Stephen McMullen who ensured a Celtic victory with one magnificent save.

Celtic have taken 4 points from their 2 games v Harelawn. They are now well positioned for a serious spring onslaught on the league championship.
