NDSL U-9 Section F

28 Sept 08

Slow start proves costly – But character shines through

The Castleknock Celtic U9F team travelled to Dunshaughlin for the third match in the qualifying rounds of the NDSL Cup competition.   The fog seemed to lifted on the playing fields a little quicker that it did on the players and Dunshaughlin got a very early advantage through a deflected cross which ended in the back of the Castleknock net.  One.   The Second came seconds later leaving the team stunned.  Two.  And,  a third with no reply.  Three.    Dunshaughlin didn’t seem to believe their luck.   Then the penny dropped and  Castleknock wiped the sand from their sleepy eyes and began to play.  The end of the first period was then played at a demanding pace and even before we could get our scoring boots on,  another one went in from the Dunshaughlin.   Finally the break through came for Castleknock as one was clawed back before the break.   4-1, at half time.

The heads had begun to drop before the half time whistle but the Castleknock team showed real character and began a strong fight back in the early part of the second half.  4-2,  4-3, but then the killer blow came and the team was exposed at the back   5-3.   But , it wasn’t over yet.   With only about 3 minutes to go Castleknock pulled back another.  5-4.  The dying minutes saw some frantic defending from Dunshaughlin and Castleknock with some real chances to split the points.   However it wasn’t to be, and Dunshaughlin left the pitch with all the spoils.

The scorers for Castleknock included:  David O’Byrne, Jack Horgan and Jack Bradshaw.

All to bed early before the next match !
