Castleknock Celtic
1 Portrane 2
Castleknock welcomed Portrane with
great expectations of creating an upset against the
league leaders. A bright start threatened the Portrane
goal early on with some great work from Mark Hughes and
Joe Gleeson at the back starting a move which saw Arron
Lynch and Sam Hennessy combine well to set up Lewis
Kilkenny who shot narrowly wide.
As the game progressed, Castleknock
grew nervous and mistakes began to creep in as Portrane
pushed hard for an opener. That opener came in an
unlucky fashion as a harmless pass at the back deflected
in to the path of an onrushing Portrane player and with
a mis-struck shot, the ball bobbled past the helpless
Jack Kearney.
After the break Castleknock rang in
the changes, 7 in all, this unfortunately seemed to
unsettle the team as they struggled to find the rhythm
of the game. Portrane surged forward and with a powerful
strike went 2 goals up.
Castleknock in the last 10 minutes
really found the form which has seen them rise to 3rd
in this league, a fantastic interchange of passes from
Robert Lynch, Vilus Labutis and the ever present Brian
Dalton put Noma Eriduitius through, after a quick step
over he fired an unstoppable shot.
Unfortunately the whistle came too
early as Castleknock seemed to be getting on top of this
game, however with a game in hand and sitting 3rd
they have a great chance to give Portrane a nervous
finish to this league. |
