Clonee Utd  2   Castleknock Celtic  1

NDSL U-7

28 Feb 09

Castleknock went to Clonee on the back of a good home win last week but within a couple of minutes they realised they were not going to have this game easy as Clonee United went a goal up with a scrappy goal which left Castleknock a little shocked. Things got worse within minutes as Castleknock struggled to find the pace of this game and Clonee surged forward to score again.

Castleknock however picked themselves up and began to establish themselves with hard work from Mark Lynch and Sam Turner in midfield and both Lewis Kilkenny and Brian Dalton up front. As half time approached Castleknock came close with a great interchange of passing between Sam Hennessy and Brian Dalton with only a great save from the Clonee keeper keeping them 2 goals up.

Changes in the second half saw Noma Eridwa, Vilus Labutis and Joe Gleeson all coming on and Castleknock continued to dominate the game. A fantastic move led to a deserved goal from Castleknock Celtic, Sam Turner picked up the ball after Ben Blanche had put in a great tackle, and moved the ball inside to Brian Dalton, some slick dribbling and an inch perfect pass put Lewis Kilkenny through and despite a challenge from the onrushing defence he blasted a shot which came off the crossbar and in. A great goal for Lewis Kilkenny on the day of his 8th Birthday.

For the last 15 minutes Caslteknock laid siege to Clonee's goal, Sam Turner was immense and Vilus Labutis tackled again and again, as Castleknock continued to throw everything forward. Clonee threw themselves at every shot but Castleknock could not get the break they deserved. There was huge dissapointment and a gracious Clonee manager conceded the luck was with the home side. Castleknock can be justifiably proud of a fantastic performance.
