"Celtic crush North/East Cup ambitions"
SFAI Goodson
Cup
5 Oct 08

Celtic entered this SFAI game with a
grim determination as this is the trophy the guys have
their sights on this season and it showed from the very
beginning. Right from the off captain Mahady took
control to beat 2 players on the right to slip Arthur
Stark inside the left back to cross and see his ball met
on the volley by strike partner Brian Slevin, who
volleyed home from 15 yards a thunderbolt into the top
corner. 1-0
Celtic then took the foot off the gas
and saw the game level off with Dundalk going close on 2
occasions before Murray, using power and pace, broke
down the right, beating 3 men as he ran the full length
of the pitch to cross where Stark scored a thunderous
volley from 20 yards that nearly burst the net - a
contender for goal of the season. 2-0
Celtic's “ s.a.s.”( Slevin and Stark
had done it again). Wale and Murray were giving the
visitors a torrid time on the left and right wings, and
they switched sides frequently, making it even more
difficult for the visitors. Wale was on fire
beating the right back to cross for Sean Hanney to score
3-0
Wale now switched wings with Murray,
who left the right back in his slipstream to cross for
Wale to score the 4th! The Celts'
attack and midfield were on fire. Murray rounded off a
great first half scoring himself. 5-0
Celtic took the opportunity to
introduce manager's Slevin’s new find Graham Fagan , who
has a wonderful left foot. He had a fine second
half display, making 2 more goals for Stark to get the
hat trick! His hat-trick included a fabulous header, see
above, which will surely feature in the New Year
Calendar, team pics for which are being taken at
present.
The rout was ended with a second for
Slevin ,but it could have been much more with the ref
blowing up with 18 mins still to play.
Celtic are a formidable side now all
over the pitch and eagerly await the draw for the next
round. Man of the match and hat-trick hero Arthur Stark.
Slevin and Stark Celtic's SAS now have 37 goals
between them so far in all competions! Watch this
space as Middlesbrough observe this side today and next
week. Interesting times ahead. |
