December 2008
AUL Div2A Sat : Goals from Odie Fanning, Dave
Hunt Philip Germaine, and Kevin Behan saw Celtic
finish off their league programme on a winning note, at
home to Swallows FC. They are in a strong position
heading into the Christmas break, having dropped the
same number of points (one drawn game) as the league
leaders who have played 2 games more. 4-1
LSL Maj1D Sat : FABULOUS win for Celtic in the
4th round of the FAI Junior Cup at home to Glasnaoin.
Their season goes from strength to strength. A
single strike from John Byrne who seized on a free kick
to the near post, was enough to see off the Northsiders.
It was no more than the home side deserved, as they had
created a host of chances, which fell to Deco Cunningham
and Phil Dillon amongst others. Next stop is away
in the 5th round against the Cup holders, Carrick Utd,
who defeated Killester Utd in last season's final.
AUL Div1 Sun : In a battle in Porterstown
Park,
Celtic
made it into the 5th round of the Leinster Junior Cup
with a single goal 10 mins from time. click
GOAL Steve O'Callaghan had been pushed rather ugly by
the Tymon central defender on the edge of the box.
The resultant free by Kevin Keane was beautifully floated to the
far post, perfectly eluding the keeper's reach, where Colm Brady ghosted in to head home from the narrowest of
angles. This was another amazing performance from Celtic
who made Tymon look second best throughout. Man of the
match was Shane Murphy who was a dynamo on the park. He
proved such a nuisance to the Tymon midfield that
they meted out some rough treatment toward the end
that saw his midfield opponent sent for an early
"shower". Next round will see Celtic entertain Fort
Celtic as the epic continues for Castleknock's senior
sides. 1-0

DDSL 9C (T Molloy) : Celtic's slick passing
game made sure that they won out in a very entertaining
game in Porterstown, on a 4-0 score line. First half
goals from Conall Dillon and Andrew O'Neill had Celtic
2-0 up at half time. Two second half goals from Conall
Dillon and Ruairi Patton gave Celtic a well deserved
victory going into the Christmas break. Conor Troy was
awarded man of the match for his overall commitment and
involvement in the 4 goals. 4-0

for Celtic at home
on
a very soft pitch that meant that both keepers had to be
particularly alert to the ball getting stuck in the mud
patches. This was indeed a very committed
performance by every man Jack, and Emma of course,
giving it 100 per cent. Demi Dare's strike in the
first half had given Celtic a narrow margin advantage at
the break. They continued their dominance in the
second half, but Maynooth were making a real contest and
went close themselves on a number of occasions.
With no.1 keeper Stuart Rocca out with flu, Liam Walsh
had to step into the breach between the sticks.
He had to be splendid to ensure a clean sheet, which he
did with style. Every shot that was fired at him was put
away to safety, and the one ball he didn't hold, he
dived at the striker's feet to ensure that he did not
concede. Celtic had to withstand a lot of pressure in
the final quarter of the game, but with Maynooth firing
men forward without caution, Celtic hit their opponents
magnificently on the counter attack. Demi Dare went
close again, while Ryan O'Donnell sealed victory when he
was on hand to strike the second from close range. [

We can say with certainty that this team has
character and get tougher with every game. For sure,

had been in a real contest. 2-0

(D Hevey) : A battling performance at home by Celtic saw
them within minutes of taking all 3 points against St
Josephs Boys, who are in second position in the league
at present. Toyeeb had put Celtic ahead half way
through the first half, and had the lion's share of the
game in that period.
The second half was a different
story, with Joeys going close on numerous occasions.
They got the ball in the Celtic net only to be ruled
offside by the ref who was well placed. But the visitors
got their reward for their incessant pressure when they
were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, which was
converted with conviction.
The goalscorer Toyeeb showed
great commitment to the cause, as he upped his
performance significantly and was deserving
of the man of the match award, which he shared with Kyle
Turner, who put in another great display. Patrick Rocca was solid at the back making many decisive headed
clearances. Celtic keeper Stephen Browne also
deserves special mention for his many excellent saves to
ensure a share of the points. 1-1 a fair result.

went down in the Cup against Maynooth who are in a
higher division in Porterstown. The visitors raced into
a 2-0 lead, but full credit to Eamonn McGrath's crew who
fought back to level the game. But Maynooth's strength
came to the fore in the final 10 mins when they hit 2
goals to give them a 4-2 margin. 2-4 NDSL 17A

Utd were the visitors to Porterstown Park on this grey
Sunday afternoon. Celtic were good value for their
lead of 1-0 thanks to Cillain Quinn's strike, and they
looked a good bet to take all 3 points. But
Whitechuch hit them with a sucker punch that gave
the visitors a share of the spoils and no change at the
top, with Celtic in 3rd spot and Utd in 5th. 1-1 |
