AUL Mullion Cup

18 May 2008

Castleknock Celtic  4    Quarryvale  2

"The Treble is on"

Celtic need just 2 points from their last 2 games to clinch their 3rd successive league title. They are already in the AUL Complex Cup Final on Sunday, 25th at 3pm, and they qualified for the Mullion Cup semi-final with this win over Quarryvale, to complete a double over the Southsiders in four days. They face the same side in the league on Tuesday, 20th May, in Porterstown.  So the TREBLE is definitely still on.

Today they slipped behind early on, before Neil Ahearne got his second in 4 days with a lovely volley over the keeper.  But Celtic fell behind again.  However, John Dunne brought them onto level terms before the break.  Half-time  2-2.

The second half very much belonged to Celtic.  Andy Weldon's header put them ahead for the first time.  But the best was kept till last, when Shane Murphy worked his magic.  Weah had been denied by the Quarryvale keeper, but the ball came to Shane about 40 yards out, and he hit a half volley to the net. Superb.  Full time 4-2 to Celtic.
