NDSL U-8E
Balscadden Boys 1 Castleknock Celtic
2
This fixture was expected to be a measure of progress
for the U8e CCFC team. Having travelled to Balbriggan
to face the Boys before Christmas and suffering a 4-2
defeat there was a determination in the Castleknock
team to show their worth.
It only took 6 minutes for CCFC U8s to break the defence
of the strong Balscadden team. Jack Horgan unselfishly
provided perfect service from the right hand side of the
box for Jay Harper to slot it in the back of the net. A
great goal, giving Celtic a 1-0 lead.
Castleknock’s defensive grouping, of Caoimhe Lynam, Paul
Lambert, Cathal Steels and Ben Cole was put through a
rigorous test in the remainder of the first half and
took everything that Balscadden could throw at them with
what looked like ease.
The start of the second half, saw Balscadden come out
even more determined. The Castleknock goal took several
near misses. But having weathered that storm,
Castleknock struck back on the break and Thomas Stevens,
having gotten the ball in space on the edge of the box,
moved confidently into to shooting distance and tested
the net with a well placed rocket. 2-0.
Balscadden
showed good character and did not let their heads drop
and 10 minutes into the half found the goal following a
skirmish in the box. However, it turned out to only be a
consolation goal as the half was played out without many
other chances for Balscadden. A satisfying win 2-1.
