22/4/08 DDSL 13A "Celtic crowned champions in style" Castleknock Celtic 4 Verona 0 This was indeed a remarkable game. Celtic needed to get a result to give them the league title that their hard work and dedication deserved. They started nervously against a very physical Verona side, and they had to rely on their keeper to ensure that they remained on terms at half time. The pep-talk at the break transformed the Celtic side. They came out for the second half rejuvenated. They won a corner after 4 mins, which was taken by Sean Hoare, and Stephen Kenna struck a beauty into the roof of the net. 1-0 5 mins later it was Kevin Flanagan who delivered an incisive diagonal ball which was rifled home from close range by Adam Noonan. This was followed by Stephen Treadwell winning the ball in the final third and setting up Ian McSherry who headed home. 3-0 2 mins from time, John McGivern won the ball in the middle of the Verona half, he took 3 players out of the game with his touch, passed to Adam Noonan on the wing, and he swung in the perfect cross for Sean Hoare to head into the roof of the net. 4-0. Adam Weafer was nominated the man of the match for making sure that his side was level at half time, having taken off some fine saves. This was a fabulous team performance which was a fitting way to take the league title. They now look forward to playing in the 14Major DDSL league next season. |
