Playing their first league game of 2008 and their first league game since the end of Nov the 12E’s were happy to travel to Rush and get their season going again. Winter breaks are all very well but the squad were itching to get going again after such a long lay off.

The game was played on a clear but not to chilly morning but the pitch in St Catherine’s Park was pretty heavy going which influenced the game to a great extent.

The 12E’s started purposefully and settled into an attacking rhythm. This was rewarded on 6 minutes with Darragh Caffrey scoring after a goalmouth melee.  However Rush settled and defended well making life difficult for the 12E front men and attacking midfielders. However while they defended well Rush never came close to testing the CC goal in the first half.  The CC 12E pressure paid off with Niall O’Callaghan’s well struck shot from the edge of the box flew into the back of the net. 2 – 0 at the break.

The second half continued as the first. Making changes to give the full squad a run out ironically Tom Byrne was subbed just after scoring number 3 on 35 minutes with a super shot.  Pressure continued with Paul Burke forcing the Rush keeper in to a fine save after a good build up from the wings. Towards the end Rush came close once with Jack Ryan (having let Jack Jennings our regular keeper a run outfield) cleared off the line.  However on 57 minutes Aaron Connolly bagged number 4 after a deflection that underlined just how dominant CC had been through out the game.

The game was, all in all, a fine mornings work and a good start to 2008. The whole squad got rid of the mid winter cobwebs. Everybody got a good run out and played well.
