Castleknock Celtic 6
Rush Athletic 0
Castleknock Celtic U12E continued their winning start to
the season with a comprehensive win over Rush Athletic
at Laurel Lodge.
The Rush team arrived at Laurel Lodge and caused a few
smiles by being an almost all girls team. The game
started with the girls proving that our Orlaith is not
the only girl who can show the guys who can football and
early signs were that they would make a game of it.
Celtic took a while to settle and get the measure of the
opposition. The nerves finally settled on 10 minutes
when Aaron Connolly opened the score with a well-taken
goal. Castleknock continued to play better by stringing
some excellent passing moves together and putting Rush
under huge pressure. The scoring continued with Darragh
McCaffrey getting Celtic’s second on twenty minutes
followed 4 minutes later by a well struck shot by Amir
Kasaspovic
thumping into the back of the net.
The second half continued with Celtic’s leading scorer
Tom Byrne rattling the bar to be followed almost seconds
later by Ntinga Mtiko scoring with a superbly struck
long range shot from 25 metres. With a 4 – 0 cushion
the Celtic subs came on and proved to be equal to the
task. Darragh scored his second of the day on 42 minutes
and our regular keeper Jack Jennings getting a run out
field set up Paul Garvey to smack in the sixth goal with
five minutes to go.
The match ended 6 – 0. The excellent result was based on
a solid defence led by Paul Burke and Jack Ryan, a
hardworking midfield and a razor sharp forward line. The
full Celtic squad worked very hard for each other and
thoroughly earned their win. The crucial difference
between the teams was the cohesive teamwork of the
Celtic 12E squad producing a super home win.
