Castleknock Celtic E were drawn with Lusk Utd D in the first round of the Kevin Moran Cup.  Lusk came with quite a reputation having well beaten CC D’s in the league.   

Lusk proved to be a skilful and well-organised team. However though Lusk were dominant for most of the match they had to work hard for the victory against a determined Celtic team.  Lusk went ahead on 10 minutes with a breakaway goal. They only went close once more in the half with a shot off the bar.  In reply Celtic earned a few corners but never truly threatened the Lusk goal.    

The second half continued as the first with Lusk pressing and finally getting their second goal mid half. Celtic came close twice with Paul Burke’s shot going narrowly wide and Tom Byrne’s free kick going just over the bar. However Lusk continued to attack and Jack Jennings in the Celtic goal played wonderfully making a large number of crucial saves. 

The match ended 0 – 2 which on balance reflected how the game went. Celtic played well, worked hard for each other and never stopped going but on the day the better side won.
