Castleknock exacted revenge on
Shels, the only to team to beat them in the league this
season, with a 2-1 away win at the AUL COMPLEX this
morning. They started brightly but fell behind
after 20 mins against the run of play. However the
lead did not last long as Donal Timoney finished with a
low drive after a fine passing movement involving Glenn
Murphy and Stevie O Donohoe. Shels then went on
the offensive but they held on with some fine defending
to go in 1-1 at half time.
The second half turned into a
midfield battle with Karl Fitzgibbon, Gavin O Reilly and
Mark Corry, all outstanding. The breakthrough came
with 10 minutes to go, when the elusive Timoney ghosted
by three players, before coolly slotting the ball beyond
the keeper from a tight angle. There was also a
fine display from keeper James Henry who is having a
fine season.
The players dedicated this fine
win to team mate Nathan Mc Aloon who remains in Temple
St. hospital after being involved in an accident during
the week. We wish him a speedy recovery and look
forward to his return to action in the near future.
While this was a league game in
the first instance, it also decided which of these 2
excellent teams goes through to compete in the Danone
Cup Tournament. We wish Celtic the best of luck when
they head off to take over from where Dave Fogarty's
team left off last season.
