13Premier hit 9 past Swords Celtic in Joe
Kirby Cup. Conor Fitzpatrick helped himself to a
hat-trick, Arthur Stark in reality hit 2, while Dan
Mangan and Carl O'Mahony got one each. The other 2
came from a luckless Swords who put into their own
net. They can expect much tougher tests in the
coming weeks.
AUL Div2Sun side progressed to the 3rd
round of the FAI Junior Cup when they defeated Moate
Celtic 4-0 away in Co Westmeath. They
dominated early on, and should have been a couple up
in the first 10 minutes. The breakthrough came
after 15 minutes when Billy Thompson broke up a
Moate attack, he then played a defence splitting
pass through to Paul Murray on the right hand side,
who crossed into the box for Adam O'Callaghan
directed his header into the bottom left hand corner
of the net. 1-0.
Garga Ta'uway was called on to make a couple of
important saves before Castleknock's Billy Thompson
put Adam O'Callaghan through, and he rounded the
keeper, before slotting home past the home keeper.
2-0.
Moate almost made it 1-2 just before half-time,
but the striker missed an open goal. 2-0
half-time.
Moate fought hard early in the second period, but
Celtic's defence held firm. Neil Ahearne had to
clear off the line and Garga made a splendid save at
the Moate striker's feet. But Steve
O'Callaghan was sent clear on the left hand side by
Neil Ahearne, who was having an excellent game, and
he crossed from the end-line to the near post where
the defender deflected into his own net under
pressure from Adam O'Callaghan and Billy Thompson.
3-0
The game was virtually over at this stage.
But the visitors put the final nail in the Moate
coffin when Steve O'Callaghan again broke down the
wing, progressed into the box, where he was upended.
The ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
The bro, Adam, stepped up and completed a
well-deserved hat-trick, and came home with the
match ball. But he generously donated it to
his Dad who celebrated his 39th !!!!birthday.
This was again a great team performance, and Moate
were quick to compliment them on being such a
sporting outfit. Full marks to Moate also for
providing the Castleknock team with splendid
refreshments after the game.
