Castleknock Celtic 13Prem travelled to
Seatown in Dundalk on Saturday for this National Cup 3d round match. Celtic hit
the home side hard and fast with a goal by John Richard O’Donovan in the opening
minutes from a corner. Celtic built on this in the first half with a strong
performance and maintaining the lion’s share of possession. Strong ball winning
in midfield by Eoghan Haughton and Jason Morgan brought the attacks from Carl
O’Mahoney and Sean Murphy on the wings, but unfortunately strikers Dan Mangan
and Conor Fitzpatrick were denied by good Seatown defending and goalkeeping.
Celtic finished the half guilty of paying
the home side too much respect, but set out early in the second half to put them
under a lot of pressure. This paid off with a great break from halfway by Artur
Stark who finished with a clinical strike to the corner of the net.
With fifteen minutes to go, Celtic were comfortably in charge, but found
themselves being constantly on the wrong end of decisions.
After a while the inevitable penalty
was awarded against Celtic and keeper Niall Browne could do nothing to prevent
Seatown getting a foothold in the match at 2-1. As the final whistle beckoned,
decisions continued to go against Celtic and forced some super performances by
defenders Mark Kelly, John Moran and the excellent Gareth Duffy. A further
corner was cleared but the swinging boot of a Seatown midfielder found the top
corner to force extra time.
Celtic set into the extra time
confident they had the beatings of their hosts and in the first period, Aaron
Wilson decided the match with a magnificent dribble past three defenders, before
turning an inswinging shot to the far corner from a tight angle.
The good attitude and performance has
been rewarded with a home tie in the next round against fellow NDSL Premier team
Tolka Rovers, where victory will see them through to the final 32.
