Celtic were without
4 regulars, who believe it or not forgot to put
their clocks forward!The
game opened up with celtic pouring forward away
from home, which is their custom. An
exceelent volley from midfield general, Sean
Hanney put the West Dublin lads ahead on 10 mins.
Celtic should
have gone further ahead when Brian Slevin
chipped the keeper, only to see the ball come
back off the crossbar into the keeper's hands.
The first half was all Celtic, with Greg O'Brien
outstanding at the back, pushing Celtic forward
in wave after wave into a strong wind. 1-0 to
Celtic at half-time.
The second half
started the way of the first, with the Premier
league leaders pushing forward again and again,
with O'Brien on the right and player of the
season last year, Colm Neville, starting every
move.
Neville raced up
the left to leave Conor Byrne to head home the
second.
Celtic then
proceeded to go to asleep, and having a very
late scare when the Drogheda men, scored with 5
mins to go!
Panic then ensued
for the last 5 mins, with Drogheda pushing
forward again and again, but Neville and man of
the match, Greg O'Brien, were in no mood to let
this slip away.
Celtic held on to
take the points and now head off to Barcelona to
play in the Tropheo mediteraneo, Spain's
prestigious tournament. Bon voyage and good luck
to the lads when we hope they can beat last
year's performance of losing in the semis.
