In what was their best performance of the season,
Castleknock simply blew away this fancied St. Ita's team,
and maintained their position in top spot of the 12B
division of the NDSL. They have had a remarkable run
which has put them in pole position for the league title.
In the home fixture, Castleknock had only scraped a draw
against a very big, physical, St. Ita's side. This
time Castleknock were determined to prove a point.
From the start, they surged forward. Within 3 mins,
Wale had opened the score.
Then a cross from Wale was met by the in-rushing John
Roe, but somehow, the keeper saved.
Roe was not going to be denied, however. Within
another 3 mins, he collected the ball just outside the
area, played it through the defenders' legs, and then lobbed
the keeper. 2-0
Next up Roe won a 50/50 ball, and played a sweet pass to
Wale, who played in Ryan ODonnell. 3-0.
The
Castleknock front players were simply too good for Itas.
Straight after half time, a through ball found Ryan free in
lots of space. No mistake with the shot. 4-0.
Then Ita's broke away and got a free kick. There seemed
no danger as Paddy Dunne fisted the ball away, only for it
to strike the back of the hapless Conor Murphy for an own
goal.
Castleknock simply renewed their attacking. Roe
again won a 50/50 challange , beat a defender, and passed to
Wale ,who unleashed a powerful shot, which the keeper
parried into the path of Ryan, who scored his 3rd goal from
all of 12 inches. 5-1.
Another 2 fine efforts were saved by the St. Ita's
keeper, one of which definitely crossed the line but the
referee judged differently.
The Castleknock manager said that no defence could have
lived with the power, skill and pace of Wale, Ryan O Donnell
and John Roe today. Other good performances came from
Kevin Bassett and Eamon Gately. While Keeper Paddy
Dunne was his usual excellent self.
