Allen strike clinches it for Celtic in thriller

NDSL 10A

A Brian Allen strike midway through the first half was enough to seal victory for the 10As in Porterstown on Saturday, and in the process ensured their winning streak continued.  They have now won all six of their league games to date.  This was a top of the table clash as Rivervalley had also won all their games.

The first half was almost entirely dominated by Celtic.  But when Rivervalley pressed forward in the second half, Celtic's defence stood firm.  Luke Lynch in goal was excellent right through, while in front of him, Fergus Kavanagh, Karl Fitzgibbon and Conor O'Ceallaigh, showed why they have only conceded 3 goals this season.  Mark Corry played a captain's role in midfield, and was ably assisted by Jamie Treanor.  Up front, Glen Murphy, as ever worked tirelessly, and on the wings Stephen O'Donoghue and Luke Martin ensured Rivervalley's full backs were kept at full stretch all morning.

Fergus Kavanagh was this reporter's Man of the match.  But to be fair, the reporter's abiding memory of the game was the incredible work ethic that the team showed throughout.  It was the work rate that ensured that they maintained their advantage when Rivervalley pressed very very hard for the equaliser, but time after time, relentless last ditch tackles saved the day.  click for gallery
