NDSL U-13E: Celtic shade it in local derby v Verona. 1-0

A single strike wins it for Celtic at home to Verona. 1-0

Celtic placed third in the league could overtake Verona with a win in this game against local rivals Verona in Porterstown. It was a Close Encounter of a Third Kind at Porterstown,

The previous game finished 1-1 away to Verona and both teams equally matched were determined to take the spoils. It was a very entertaining game of football and both sides had their chances, the defenders for both teams were rock solid and it was going to take something special to break the deadlock …..and it came just at half time with a fantastic one -two movement created by Sean Markey leaving Andy O’ Neill free with only Verona’s Left Full between the attacker and Goal ….. No Contest – a skilful side foot pushing the ball into the 18 yard area leaving room for a perfectly taken strike that left the goalkeeper stunned….1-0 for the home team.

Verona came back with a quick reply and almost equalized but with cool thinking and a bit of luck Right full Sean Nagle cleared the ball off the line and over the bar. The Celtic back four (Nagle, Rowsome J,Fleming and Tolan) were outstanding throughout the game and anything that got by them was controlled by Reece Clarke in Goal. Centre half and match captain Robbie Doyle kept a tight ship in the midfield with Walsh,Maher and Molloy who fought hard to keep possession. Excellent second half play by Sam Rowsome and Sean Markey made life difficult for Verona on both wings . Also a mention for the Goal keeper for Verona who made a fantastic save in the second half from a long distance strike, keeping his team in the game. Fair play to Verona as they battled hard and could almost have taken a point from their valiant efforts. The winner on the day was good football and the way it was played. Well played both teams… for good sportsmanship..
