I got my book of cliché out after this mornings match. It was “A game of Two halves”. Corduff Utd visited Porterstown today with an air of
confidence about them. Fresh from their 2-0 home win, their confidence may have been justified, Celtic had other ideas. A strong wind was always going to have a big bearing on the outcome of this game. Corduff took full advantage in the first half and took a 2-0 lead.
Celtic knew that the second half would bring chances. James Smith was the first to pounce. Seizing on a fumble from the Corduff goalkeeper James slotted home. That lifted the spirits. Some quality football was played by Celtic to retain possession and control the game. Corduff seemed to be rattled and conceded a free five yards from the 18yard box. Vladic Kryloc was selected to take the free. He launched the ball into the 6 yard box only to be cleared and return to his feet. Vladic struck on the half volley and planted it high into the Corduff goal beyond the reach of the keeper. 2-2. What a comeback and not willing to settle for the draw the Celts rallied. Sean Ryan, man of the match, provided a perfect pass for Aaron Cunningham on the right wing to run on to . Aaron cut inside and shot. The gasps of breath on the sideline were palpable as the ball creased the back of the net. Facci Sognare !
8 minutes left and the game would be ours. The heads had gone down in Corduff team and they presented no further threat. A first, deserved, hard fought win of the new year. Every one one the field contributed to this win. Well done to all. Result: 3 – 2 to Celtic. match action
