On a cold blustery morning Sacred Heart FC travelled to a play a Celtic team who were looking to build on their 6:0 friendly win last weekend.
This is the top Celtic team at the U-12 age group, but they had been under-performing, losing by a single goal in most encounters, so it was no surprise to see them go a goal down after ten minutes. Sacred Heart put on tremendous pressure and Celtic were lucky to be only one down at half time.
In the second half Celtic were playing against the wind and the visitors piled on the pressure. A loose ball to Jeremy was intercepted by their striker who scored a fantastic goal from the edge of the box. In the past, this team would have dropped their heads, however, they seemed to gain a second wind and it wasn’t long before Aayo Doribulo latched onto a Jeremy pass to make it 2:1. In the space of five minutes, Aayo missed two chances before capitalising on others later on. More pressure from Celtic was applied and the equaliser was scored by Oisin Kirwan.
Jeremy and Aayo linked up again to score a fabulous third and the match was closed off when Aayo notched up a brilliant hat-trick.
This was Celtic’s first competitive match of 2012 and a solid base from which to kick on over the remaining months of the season.
Man of the mach Aayo Doribulo.
