DDSL 18Premier: Kevin Flanagan stars in 4-0 victory over Leixlip

The definition of Logistics is “having the right thing, at the right place, at the right time.” Kevin Flanagan is a logistics master, because he got the right ball in the right place at the right time for all four of Castleknock Celtic’s goals, three from beautifully delivered corners.

Leixlip United are a good team and have had the upper hand on Castleknock over last few years and put Celtic under pressure for the first 25 minutes. However they failed to make any chances as the Castleknock centre back partnership of Ian McSherry and Shane Dunne excelled. Then came the game changer when Sean Conroy latched onto Kevin’s through ball and his shot was helped into the net by the Lexilip centre half.

Time for the Kevin Flanagan show, in an incredible 10 minutes around the break. His first delivery 2 minutes before the break was brilliantly met by the forehead of Conor Byrne and his bullet header nestled in the net. Five minutes into the second half Kevin’s next corner found Eoghan Bradshaw at the near post and his superb flick found the top corner. Goal number 4 came 3 minutes later when Kevin’s 3rd corner was met by by the impressive Ian McSherry.

The score line really did not reflect the game, and Leixlip continued to battle hard and came close a number of times. With 15 minutes left they got a bizarre penalty when their winger slipped chasing a lost cause, but a penalty was awarded. Patrick Dunne dived low and made an excellent save on the line. But even more bizarrely the referee ordered a retake, but Patrick, who is improving with every game, amazingly saved the penalty again, wonderful stuff.

So it was Celtic’s third league win in a row and their third clean sheet and keeps them on top of the DDSL Under 18 Premier League.
