Castleknock Celtic 1 v 3 Drumfin Celtic
Castleknock performed admirably against high flying Drumfin who were first out of the blocks to take the lead after ten minutes. 0 – 1. Castleknock were level almost immediately when Jamie Traynor got to the end of a corner kick and volleyed to the roof of the net. 1 – 1.
With Castleknock settling and getting into their stride they were dealt a blow when the ref awarded a penalty to Drumfin for what seemed an innocuous challenge. The kick was dispatched to the net 1 – 2. Castleknock had shouts of their own for a penalty when Conor O’ Ceallaigh was upended in the penalty area by the Drumfin keeper as they tussled for a loose ball. With half time approaching Drumfin fashioned a third HT 1 – 3
Castleknock to their credit didn’t let their heads drop after conceding so near the break, and gave it a good go in the second period. They created chances but Drumfin were resolute in defence and closed down any danger quickly. Castleknock’s cause wasn’t helped when an injury to left back Scott Browne saw attacking threat Conor O’ Ceallaigh moved to that position to cover the runs of the Drumfin’ pacey right winger. With no further scores Castleknock can be proud of their performance against a team that scored six in each of their last two games.
