Having suffered twice at the hands of Drumfin in as many weeks, Castleknock travelled to Ballyfermot to again lock horns with their nemesis. This time it was very different when a rampant stylish Celtic inflicted the first league defeat of the season on the home side.
The game started in near perfect conditions with Castleknock showing no ill effects from the recent defeats suffered at the hands of their rivals. With less than Five minutes on the clock Glenn Murphy had Castleknock in front with a wonderful strike from the right wing 1-0. It got even better at the half’s mid point when Shane Smith got on the end of a right wing cross to volley to the roof of the net. 2-0. Drumfin were by no means out of this game and created chances of their own, but teak tough defending and superb goalkeeping kept them at bay. As the game neared half time Oisin Zambra beat the Drumfin keeper to a 50/50 ball and lobbed to the net. HT 3-0
The start of the second half saw Drumfin exert severe pressure in a bid to get back into the game, but the Castleknock defence again stood strong, and they gradually regained their foothold on proceedings. The Drumfin challenge was eventually snuffed out in the 65th minute when Oisin Zambra found space on the right and finished powerfully to the net 4-0. Castleknock were now totally dominant and made a team that will be involved in the final shake up look very ordinary. The only blot if you can call it that on an otherwise flawless performance was the concession of a very late goal. FT 4-1
