Castleknock travelled to Greystones knowing that their opponents have gone unbeaten in all competitions and remained runaway group leaders. Castleknock found it difficult in the opening 15 minutes with Greystones moving the ball well with neat interchanges which the back 4 of Castleknock found it difficult to get to grips with. “Bassy McMahon” and Kevin Long in the centre half berths worked hard to keep Keeper Jack Kearney from having to make any interventions. As Greystones pushed forward both Ben Blanche and Alex Murphy at right and left back who were forced to conceed several corners. It was from a break down the wing and a neat interchange and cross which saw just Ben Blanche alone and as the the ball skidded up off an attempted clearance Greystones poked home for the opening score.
Castleknock came out in the second half fired up and with a couple of changes took the game to Greystones. Long was imense 1st to the ball and battling to win back possesion time after time he set up Arron, Robert Lynch and Ahmed Kahlid in Midflield to press forward and over the 1st 15 minutes of the second half they pushed forward with some supberb passing moves. It was one of these that saw Dylan Mulhearn get on the end of super cross from Robert Lynch and as he threw himself at the ball it squeezed pass the on rushing keeper 1-1 and game on.
The back 4 of Castleknock were rarely troubled with the exception of one spectacular save from Jack Kearney and as the game wore on and Greystones must have felt they would be lucky to hold on. Time after time the Lynch brothers pushed forward, with Long, Blanche, “Bassy” and Murphy breaking up the Greystones attacks with ease. Robert Lynch came close, with a last ditch block seeing his effort go wide, Dylan Mulhern was one on one but scuffed his effort, Ahmid Kahlid probably should have passed when his team mates were free but there was no doubt for anyone watching that Castleknock were the better side and deserved the win. Man of The Match Kevin Long.
