Despite conceding 4 goals in the first 12 minutes, Celtic’s opponents Trinity Donaghmede settled into the game and managed to stem the flow.
Early goals from leading goal scorer Malachy Tighe (2), Zarayab Afridi and a free kick from dead ball specialist Tom Fitzsimons gave Celtic a comfortable cushion as the game moved towards half time. Despite the murky conditions, Celtic played attractive football from the back with goalkeeper James Igoe very alert at spotting the opportunities for a quick throw or kick as well as making some important saves as Donaghmede came more and more into the game.
After the half time Donaghmede continued to improve as the game went on and were rewarded with 2 quick goals of their own with less than 15 minutes remaining. However, Celtic remained calm and following some excellent passing by Sean Costello and Darren Doyle, Cian Kelly scored a fifth goal for Celtic. Overall an excellcent performance with valuable contributions being made by all 14 players who were involved.
