DDSL U-13 Gerry Murphy Cup: Celtic advance 3-1 v Home Farm

Castleknock faced opposition from a higher league in this closely fought cup match in Porterstown. Castleknock started well and did not let Home Farm settle on the ball. Tenacious tackling by Kevin Udhin in midfield led to the opening goal for the home side scored after a mazey solo run by Tameem Chaal.

Home Farm responded with an unstoppable long range effort to equalise midway through the 1st half.

As the match ebbed and flowed at both ends, midfield general Shane O Brien produced yet another defence-splitting pass to set up speedy winger Andrew Murphy for Castleknock’s 2nd goal.

Home Farm emerged for the 2nd half with all guns blazing but gallant defensive displays from Andrea Porretta and Matthew O’Rourke ensured a goal was not conceded.

As Castleknock gradually came back into the game mid-way through the 2nd half, Killian Ronan and Cormac Downes exchanged passes which led to Cormac drilling home to extend the lead further 3-1.

Liam Kelly made a number of outstanding saves in the closing minutes and Oisin O Donoghue cleared off the goal-line as Castleknock held on for a thrilling victory.

A great victory for Celtic who are obviously benefiting from the experience they gained on their football tour of Holland last summer.  match action
