10/10/11: U-15 Girls are in tremendous form v Malahide Utd: 4-3

The U15 girls squad travelled to Malahide to finally kick off their season in the newly formed Metropolitan Women’s League.

There was a strong breeze blowing down thepitch and this favoured Malahide in the first half.

Castleknock started strongly, with Kellie Boyle marshalling the defence well and Rebecca Kearney and Emma Boyle controlling the midfield.

It was very muchagainstthe run of play that Malahide scored the first goal. Malahide took great encouragement from this and slowlybegan to work their way into the match, added by a gale force wind and they added a second goal about fifteen minutes before half time. Malahide were getting on top at this stage and only some fine goal keeping from Naoishe Mcaloon prevented them from pulling further ahead.

These Castleknock girls did not let thisdeter them and were rewarded when Emma Boyle split the Malahide defence with a through ball for Kellie Boyle to run on to and clinically finish to the back of the Malahide net. The Girls were not finished yet as Ciara Brady went on a mazy run and played the ball through for Lyndsey Kearney to hammer home from the edge of the area. The first half ended 2-2 and Castleknock were going to have the strong wind at their backs for the second half.

The Castleknock girls started very strongly in the second half andcould have taken the lead on a number of occasions only forthe Malahide goalkeepertopull off a string of excellent saves.

However, the pressure eventually payed off with Allanah Walsh, who played a terrific match up front, getting on the end of a cross to coolly slot the ball pas t the Malahide keeper to give the Castleknock girls the lead for the first time. Castleknock kept Malahide pinned back for long periods but were caught on the breakwhen the opposition equalised for a well worked goal.

Again the Castleknock girls pushed forward with Ciara Brady, Emma Boyle and Lyndsey Kearney going close.

The winning goal was well worth waiting for when Kellie Boyle took a throw in to Emma Boyle who took control, beat a couple of defenders and curled a shot into the top left hand corner from outside the penalty area that gave the Malahide Keeper no chance..

The match finished 4-3 to Castleknock against a team that we playedfour time last season and never once came out on top.
