NDSL 17A leave it late in 3-2 victory v. Raheny Utd in windswept Porterstown

It was a windy day at Porterstown as the under 17a played the first game of the season against Raheny Utd.

With the wind playing its part, it was a game that would test all. On 28 minutes a neat one two set Conor Stephenson through to drill a low ball to the keeper’s left hand side which made the match 1-0. As time ticked on Raheny pushed on testing the back four, but with them all standing strong, it was still 1-0 on 38 minutes.  Castleknock Celtic used the wind to effect, and a kick out from the keeper Tadhg Hanlon left Messi McEntee one on one with the keeper.  McEntee shot on goal only too see his effort handled on the line.   Just as the management team thought half time team talk was ready, Raheny sent a long ball down the right hand side and one low pass made it 1-1 on the stroke of half time.

With the half time team talk over and Castleknock playing against the wind it was time to get the ball on the ground. Celtic did this well and were rewarded on 69 minute after a big shout for a penalty was turned down but the rebound fell to Conor Mullen who slotted home 2-1. 30 seconds later after the kickoff, Raheny were back in it 2-2.

All hands to the pumps with 10 minutes to go, changes were made in mid field.  Celtic settled with all pushing forward.  The side line thought the winning goal would come.  On 89 minutes substitute Garreth Ruane popped up with a strike from just inside the box and into the back of the net 3-2.

Celtic had a good day’s work.  But on a sad note all the lads wish to say they are thinking of Sean Doyle after his grand-father passed away.  Our thoughts are with you and your family.
