The Charles Dickens classic novel, A tale of two cities, was relegated to mediocrity with this new nail biting thriller, “A tale of two Dunnes”.
The first half ended saw the teams level. Castleknock took a deserved lead when Sean Conroy cleverly steered Tom Fogarty’s cross in to the net. Celtic had a few other chances before Tolka scored a fabulous equaliser. The Tolka no 6 picked up the ball in midfield, beat 2 players and smashed a stunning shot into the top corner.
Celtic carved out great chances and Eoghan Bradshaw, Luc Cautley and Kevin Flanagan all came close. Enter the first Dunne, Shane, as he rose high at the back post to head home a fabulous cross from Conor Byrne. Now the second Dunne, Shane’s twin, Pat, as he made his best save ever from a strong downward header from the Tolka centre forward that had goal written all over it. Pat continued his fine form, when he tipped a looping shot over the bar. He then pushed another around the post. In between Castleknock should have wrapped it up but missed 2 great chances. Tolka piled on the pressure but the exceptional Ian McSherry held the defence in tact for a narrow, but deserved Celtic win which gets their league campaign underway after the reverse the previous Sunday against Drimnagh Celtic.
